Taroom Steers Win Biggenden Steer Sale Crush

Burnett Livestock & Realty’s annual Steer Sale on Thursday 2nd February saw a high quality yarding of 1522 head. No 0 steers sold consistently with most selling from 190 to 198 cents with nearly all going to feedlots very few went to grass fatteners. These steers between 400 – 500kgs averaged 193.4c. No 1 steers sold strongly averaging 206.7c for steers 300 – 400kg. Good lines of Santa Gertrudis and Charbray steers dominated the first forty pens of No 1s and sold from 195.2 to 240.2 cents.

The Champion Pen of the sale and winner of the Santa Gertrudis Infused Steers class went to the Griffiths family, Taroom with the pen of Santa Gertrudis Hereford cross No 1 steers selling for 226.2c or $758 - $881. The Griffiths family took home the Champion prize of a Leichts CIA Immobilizer crush worth $9000. The balance of the Griffiths’ Santa and Santa Hereford No 1 steers sold from 207.2c – 222.2c or $728 - $800.

Due to high rainfall on the coast in the week before the sale most coastal vendors were unable to transport their stock to the sale. Cattle were drawn from Taroom, Theodore, Chinchilla, Monto, Eidsvold, Mt Perry, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Booubyjan, Goomeri, Windera, Wondai, Benarkin, Nanango, Widgee, Bauple, Childers, Gin Gin, Lowmead and all local areas.

Winner of the Droughtmaster or Droughtmaster Infused class went to WG & GI Janke, Widgee. Their No 1 Droughtmaster steers went on to sell for 204.2c or $741. Winner of the Charolais infused class went to NJ Augustine, Mundubbera. The pen of No 1 Charbray steers sold for 223.2c or $855 while the balance of the Augustine steers sold for 219.2c or $765. The Open Breed class went to The Brae Pastoral Co, Theodore for their pen of No 0 Brangus steers showing more Angus attributes. The steers sold for 195.2c or $875. The Brahman Infused class went to CB & CE Hosking, Coalstoun Lakes for their No 1 Brangus steers showing more Brahman attributes. These steers sold for 198.2c or $865 while the balance of the Hosking’s No 1 Charbray Brangus steers sold from 197.2c – 203.2c or $776 - $896.

Other results included Greenup PL, Eidsvold selling No 0 Santa Gertrudis steers for 195.2c or $947. Santa No 0 steers on account of OP Dingle, Mt Perry sold for 195.2c or $844 while the No 1 Santa Charbray steers sold for 220.2c or $635. No 0 Droughtmaster steers with milk to four teeth on account of D & K McKinnon, Windera sold for 193.2c or $944. The Seymour family, Byrnestown sold a line of crossbreed No 0 steers selling from 187.2c – 198.2c or $723 - $957. Eidsvold Sleeper Mill, Eidsvold sold No 0 Charbray and Simbrah steers for 197.2c or $842 - $905. No 1 steers on account of Eidsvold Sleeper Mill sold strongly with the Santa Gertrudis steers sold from 195.2c – 205.2c or $626 - $867; the Charbrays sold from 202.2c – 226.2c or $723 - $873 and the Simbrah steers sold from 211.2c – 217.2c or $724 - $803. Wajatryn Pastoral Co, Gayndah sold Charolais Droughtmaster cross No 0 steers for 194.2c or $991 while the No 1 steers sold for 233.2c or $663. RI & PA McIntosh, Goomeri sold a line of No 0 HGP treated Brangus steers with milk to four teeth that sold from 183.2c – 195.2c or $731 - $866. Santa Gertrudis, Charbray and Brangus No 1 steers from Monto sold strongly with the Santa steers selling from 211.2c – 232.2c or $585 - $718. The Charbray steers sold from 218.2c – 231.2c or $655 - $692 and the Brangus steers sold for 212.2c or $616. Brian Pastures, Gayndah sold composite and Brahman No 1 steers for 208.2c – 212.2c or $564 - $656. S Holder, Biggenden sold Charbray cross No 1 steers for 214.2c or $658. Ausmec Pastoral, Benarkin sold ten month old Charbray steers for 239.2c or $656. EE & ML Mollenhagen, Mt Perry sold lighter conditioned ten month old Charbray steers for 240.2c or $601. JH & LA Kerle, Mundubbera sold No 1 Brangus steers from 215.2c – 219.2c or $603 - $701. The Preston family, Monto sold Brahman cross No 1 steers to top at 219.2c or $743. RR & SA Ramage, Monto sold No 1 and weaner Charbray Droughtmaster and Brahman steers from 210c – 239.2c or $357 - $666. MJ & DK Marshall, Coalstoun Lakes sold light conditioned Charbray and Droughtmaster cross yearling steers from 225.2c – 238.2c or $518 - $563. DA & CM Eriksen, Mundubbera sold Droughtmaster Santa cross weaner steers for 231.2c or $702. Toondoon Grazing, Mundubbera sold Droughtmaster cross weaner steers for 248.2c or $518. D Goodman-Jones, Gin Gin sold Droughtmaster Brahman cross weaner steers for an average of 220.2c or $560. JN McNaught, Gayndah sold Charbray and Brahman weaner steers from 220.2c – 239.2c or $491 - $573.
