Rainy Sale Explodes Biggenden Market
Burnett Livestock & Realty’s fortnightly meatworks and store sale on Monday September 6 saw a rain reduced yarding of 1001 head but saw the market explode like the forthcoming season.
Cattle were drawn from Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Miriam Vale, Tiaro, Woolooga, Lower Wonga, Mt Perry, Gin Gin, Rosedale, Lowmead, Childers and all local areas.
Bullock quality was down on previous sales with this being reflected in the price down three cents on last sale. Meatworks cows were up five to fifteen cents, with bulls on par with last sale.
Gurrinyah Pastoral Co, Woodgate, sold Brahman cross bullocks for 174.2c or $1101. Handford Grazing, Yerra sold Brahman cross bullocks for 173.2c or $1012. TC Bailey, Wallila, Gin Gin sold Santa cross bullocks from 173.2c – 175.2c or $945 - $1052. DL Roebuck, Gin Gin sold Brahman cross bullocks for 173.2c or $998. WR Martin, Childers sold Brangus cross bullocks from 173.2c – 178.2c to average $936 and Brahman cross cows for 168.2c or $891. MDG Enterprises, Gayndah sold milk and two tooth Brahman trade steers for 176.2c or $870. Most bullocks sold from 170c – 176c with plainer to older types selling from 145c – 160c. Tom and Rhonda Hall, Goodwood sold Belmont cross cows from 141.2c – 157.2c or $642 - $1000, and a Belmont cross bull for 156.2c or $1429. Droughtmaster cross cows on account of Mark and Debbie Ford, Mundubbera sold for 151.2c or $763. Luke Tincknell, Mundubbera sold Droughtmaster cross cows for 147.2c or $807. Most meatworks cows sold from 140c – 155c. Good store cows from John and Jenny Pott, Eidsvold sold for 129.2c or $556. Most store cows sold from 110c – 125c. Not many meatworks heifers were yarded, however trade heifers on account of Matt Curtis (bride to be), Degilbo sold for 162.2c or $652. Most trade heifers sold for 158c – 160.2c. Harold Dwyer, Didcot sold a Brahman bull for 158.2c or $1273. A Charbray bull on account of Peter Colyer, Coalstoun Lakes sold for 150.2c or $1006.
Store steers over 400kg were six to nine cents dearer than last sale. Steers 300kg – 400kg were firm with weaner steers 200kg – 300kg up ten to twenty-three cents. Heifers 300kg – 400kg remained firm with weaner heifers being up five to ten cents. Michael and Megan Dingle and John and Jenny Pott, Eidsvold sold a magnificent line of Charbray Droughtmaster cross steers, two years, with the milk and two teeth steers selling from 192.2c – 193.2c or $771 - $862; and the four tooth steers selling from 174.2c – 188.2c to top at $802. John Kingston, Childers sold Droughtmaster cross steers for 189.2c – 194.2c or $776 - $841. Santa cross steers, two years, on account of Shane Robinson, Tiaro sold for 193.2c or $883. With not many steers fourteen to eighteen months yarded, most sold 170c – 185c. BH & SP Portas, Woolooga sold outstanding Droughtmaster weaner steers which met fierce competition to sell from 207.2c – 220.2c or $516 - $542. Konjuli Partnership, Woolooga sold Droughtmaster weaner steers which also met with fast and furious bidding to sell for 221.2c or $465. Anthony Fowkes, Degilbo sold a line of Droughtmaster Charbray and Brangus cross weaner steers that sold from 195c – 197.2c or $392 - $480. Brangus weaner steers on account of Scott and Trish Donovan, Lyndale, Dallarnil sold for 205.2c or $458. Suzanne Drews, Biggenden sold Limousin cross weaner steers from 192.2 – 210c or $396 - $483. ED Jensen, Wallaville sold Brangus Murray Grey cross steers for 195c or $531. AM Horwood, Gin Gin sold Charolais cross weaner steers for 206.2c or $466. Santa cross weaner steers on account of Mark and Debbie Ford, Mundubbera sold for 199c or $577. Most weaner steers sold from 180c – 200c.
Top quality Droughtmaster heifers, 18 months, from John and Tracey Tincknell, Mundubbera topped at 175c or $661. Roy Brown and Family, Clitheroe, Brooweena sold Brahman cross heifers, 18 months, from 164.2c - 166.2c to return $512 - $617. Charbray cross heifers, 15 months, on account of Jeff Bradley, Gin Gin sold for 175c or $568. Most heifers fourteen to eighteen months sold from 155c – 170c depending on breed type. Prime vealer calves were in high demand. Mal and Margaret Latza, Riverleigh sold Droughtmaster cross weaner heifers for 198c or $491. Ian Manly, Camp Mountain sold Senepol cross weaner heifers for a top of 202.2c or $559. Droughtmaster cross weaner heifers on account of Ben O’Rourke, Brooweena sold for 202.2c or $508. Errol Jensen, Wallaville sold Brangus cross weaner heifers for 198.2c or $535. Gary Robinson, Binjour sold crossbreed weaner heifers for a top of 200c or $490. Brangus cross heifers on account of GD & SC Dingle, Bundaberg sold for 203.2c or $467. Anthony Fowkes, Degilbo sold a line of Droughtmaster cross weaner heifers for a top of 205.2c or $592. Keith Lester, Wallaville sold Limousin cross heifers for 190c or $408. Most weaner heifers sold from 170c – 190c depending on condition.
Few cows and calves were yarded with AG Einam, Childers selling Brangus cross cows and calves for $830.
